Hermann Historica announces a special auction on 24 July 2025
On Thursday, 24 July 2025, Hermann Historica is holding an exclusive auction that will focus completely on firearms. Collectors, experts and history buffs will be spoilt for choice with approximately 900 lots coming under the hammer. A premiere for the auction house, it is the first time that an entire auction has been dedicated exclusively to antique, historical and modern firearms.
Antique firearms
Starting at 10 o'clock, buyers can look forward to a varied assortment of antique pieces. Among the highlights is a percussion pistol in its original case with a full set of accessories. It was made by Gastine Renette of Paris in 1885 (lot number 171). Renette served as court gunsmith to the kings of Spain and Emperor Napoleon III of France. He won a silver medal for his craftsmanship at the Industrial Expositions of both 1839 and 1844. Offers from 4,500 euros are welcome.
The next showpiece is a pair of percussion pistols by J. M. Brier of Paris, dating from circa 1850 (lot number 158). The guide price of 4,500 euros for this ensemble also includes the original case.
The model of a field howitzer, probably from Prussia around 1830/40, promises to be a surprise for connoisseurs (lot number 15). The faithful replica is certainly impressive, thanks to its bronze barrel, circular cascabel base and wooden carriage with fine iron fittings. Moreover, the spoke wheels, box of accessories and limber with the large carriage are true to the original. Although this model is an extremely rare find, even aficionados with a limited budget are in with a chance: the reserve is just 1,500 euros.
Lot number 70 is an exceptionally magnificent and elaborate combination firearm: a battle axe with integrated flintlock pistol from the early 18th century. This eccentric weapon is composed of a delicately engraved axe blade at the muzzle and a simple flintlock. Featuring opulent bone inlays on its stock and butt plate, the weapon is embellished all over with hunting motifs, tendrils and grotesque masks, making it sure to coax a gun enthusiast into investing 2,500 euros.
Historical and modern firearms
The auction also showcases extraordinary rarities in the field of historical and modern firearms. A percussion revolver-shotgun by Johann Conrad Fischer of Schaffhausen is expected to fetch 8,500 euros (lot number 1006). According to the latest information, no other firearm of this type is known to exist. The curved trigger guard plus the dark lacquered, richly grained stock with its finely chiselled chequering and German cheek piece only enhance the appeal of this exquisite weapon.
The percussion shotgun made by Sick of Günzburg is also worthy of special mention (lot number 1013). The side panels are lavishly engraved with arabesques and gold-inlaid animal motifs in half relief. The cocks and lock plate are no less splendid. Moreover, the trigger guard with a scroll-shaped ornament and the dark walnut stock with its Bavarian cheek piece are embellished with delicate carving. Needless to say, this fabulous testament to craftsmanship may command its price, with bids invited from 7,000 euros.
Lot number 1234 is also certain to attract its share of attention. It is a first-rate reproduction of a legendary Luger variant in .45 calibre that was produced as a small-scale series. The historical original never went into production. The weapon will win over legions of fans with its elaborate CNC machining, excellent finish, and top-notch shooting performance. It comes complete with its oak case, lined in red velvet. The catalogue price of 4,500 euros includes a spare magazine and the key to the case.
This auction promises an extensive selection of unparalleled antique weapons and firearms.
The pre-sale viewing will take place from 15 to 19 July and on 22/23 July 2025 at the offices of Hermann Historica in Grasbrunn. Buyers are kindly requested to make an appointment. Please see www.hermann-historica.com for further information.
