This scarce gilt Government Officials dagger was produced for use by officials of the Reichsministerium für die besetzten Ostgebiete (RMBO), the “Eastern Ministry,” established on 7 July 1941 when Adolf Hitler appointed Alfred Rosenberg to administer the occupied eastern territories. This example survives in choice condition, exhibiting virtually no signs of use. All fittings, the grip, and blade conform exactly to the standard Eickhorn Government Official pattern, the only distinction being the rich gilt finish applied throughout. The eagle-head pommel, backstrap, and front grip plate show no evidence of carriage. The faux mother-of-pearl celluloid grip plates have mellowed attractively to a pleasing golden tone, displaying the characteristic swirling internal pattern. The crossguard eagle features the desirable “high-lift” wing tips and remains in excellent condition. The matching scabbard is perfectly straight with a well-preserved pebble finish and finely detailed oak-leaf suspension bands. Notably, the suspension rings retain their full gilt, further suggesting that the dagger saw little, if any, wear. The blade is mint, retaining its original cross-grain polish and a sharp, needle-like tip. The reverse ricasso bears the 1935–1941 trademark of Carl Eickhorn and the dagger still retains its brown leather blade buffer. The spanner pommel reveals pristine disassembly holes, indicating that a wrench has never been applied and the piece has remained undisturbed since assembly. An outstanding opportunity to acquire an exceptionally rare RMBO dagger preserved in superb, untouched condition with only light patina to surfaces. Length ca 38.5 cm.
