Half-litre cream/off-white pottery stein decorated with the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Württemberg and the Reich eagle over crossed rifle and machine gun, and under a Reichswehr steel helmet. Pewter lid with relief of helmet has presentation engraved on rim. Small dent to rim. In the bottom of stein is written in pencil (partly blurred) "Ritterkreuzträger Hpm Bittl.ngma.. Eroberung Sewastopol". Georg Bittlingmaier, born in 1904 in Uhingen, Baden-Württemberg, in 1921 he joined the 13. Infanterie Regiment (Reichswehr) in Ludwigsburg and was promoted to Leutnant in 1937 and to Oberleutnant in 1940. On June 29, 1942 he led the I./IR 391 during the assault against the Sapun Heights (southeast of Fortress Sevastopol) on top of the batallion. The steep hill, the main bunker and the adjacent concrete redoubt were captured within 70 minutes. Bittlingmaier was badly wounded and died the following day. He is buried at the German War Cemetery Sevastopol-Gontscharnoje. The KC was awarded posthumously on July 25, 1942, presumably at the same time as his promotion to Hauptmann.Zustand: II Fragen zum Los?
