Silver, black enamel. Fineness mark "900", number "286", indistinct maker's mark and Austrian Diana head hallmark for 900 silver. Inside the engraved dedication "In appreciation - Mr. Allgeier, March 28, 1935, at the UFA Palace at the Zoo - Leni". The outer surfaces have fine ribbing, and the lid also features inlaid decorative stripes in black enamel. Dimensions 12 x 8 x 1.2 cm, weight 165 g. Contains old cigarettes. Sepp Allgeier (1895–1968) was a pioneer of mountain, ski, and nature films, as well as a skier, ski jumper, mountaineer, and actor. At the age of 17, he was already filming Emperor Wilhelm II and his sons, and in the same year, he made the first instructional film about alpine climbing. Together with Arnold Franck, he created numerous spectacular films, such as "The Miracle of the Snowshoe" in 1920, which ran for 10 years in Germany alone and had an estimated 6 to 8 million viewers. His films were also highly regarded in the USA and were sold out on Broadway for over three years. In 1933, Leni Riefenstahl hired Sepp Allgeier for the propaganda film "Victory of Faith" and in 1934 for "Triumph of the Will". His revolutionary directing and camera work were considered groundbreaking and had a significant influence on the international film scene, especially in Hollywood.

Provenienz: Platoon Commander Stanley Kallenbach with the 290th Engineer Combat Battalion. Included is a letter from Stan Kallenbach to a friend in Yonkers, New York, in which he sends him this cigarette case and explains how he met Mr. Allgaier in Berchtesgaden and learned about his life story as a cameraman, ultimately receiving the cigarette case in exchange for a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes. The letter and the damaged envelope are dated August 1963, along with photocopies of two of Kallenbach's service documents.
