Description
Seven associated bronze fittings from a belt. 1) End fitting with belt hooks. Long rectangular plate with a set-off tongue at one end, the border of which is profiled by an arch and two points at the corners. On the tongue a palmette. In front of it a meander and a “Running dog”, followed by two large bosses encircled by smaller bosses. Immediately before the other end, two egg-shaped attachments with a round projection that served to fasten belt hooks. The belt hooks broken off and no longer present. On the attachments a palmette with incised lines. Preserved length 16 cm. 2) A counter fitting with two pairs of holes for the belt hooks, to allow adjustment to the circumference of the body. The decoration repeats elements of the fitting with the belt hooks: a meander and a “Running dog”, followed by two large bosses encircled by smaller bosses. In addition, a row of bosses flanked by two zigzag bands, and once more a large boss encircled by smaller bosses. Length 15.5 cm. 3–4) Two rectangular fittings with large bosses encircled by smaller bosses; along the borders a row of bosses flanked by dots. Length 5.2 cm each. 5–6) Two wheel-shaped fittings with bosses at the centre and rims, ribs along the centre of the spokes, and dots along the borders. 6.5 cm wide each. 7) Back fitting with profiling on the sides as on the end fitting with the belt hooks. Palmette drawn in dots between four bosses. The border framed by dots. Length 6 cm. All fittings provided at the corners and centre with rivets for attachment to a base of organic material. All with red-brown patina. All fittings mounted on a Plexiglas base. Length of the Plexiglas plate 90.5 cm. The height of all fittings corresponds to the height of the Plexiglas plate: 6.5 cm.
