Straight, biconvex blade (stained, pitting in places), central point with barbed hook, the double-headed eagle below a crown etched into both sides, along with the inscriptions „Vivat Ertz Herzog Joseph" and „REGT Á CHEVAL DE CARAFFA". Iron knuckle-bow hilt with crosspiece and thumb ring on the reverse, black leather-covered grip (minor losses to the leather). Scabbard with a wooden core, black leather cover (scuffed) and iron mountings, a heart-shaped frog stud on the obverse of the locket, „No. 23" engraved on the opposite side. Slightly damaged here and there, obvious signs of age and use. Length 107 cm. Established in 1672 as the „Caraffa Cuirassiers" for the imperial Habsburg army, the unit later became the royal-imperial Dragoon Regiment "Graf Paar" No. 2. Obrist Antonio Graf von Caraffa (1646 -1693) and his cuirassiers took part in the battle against the Ottomans in Hungary. He was imperial Habsburg Field Marshal and, from 1688, General War Commissioner until his death.Condition: II - III Questions about the lot?
