23 May: Orders and Military Collectibles from 1919 onwards
A remarkable witness to the sporting history of the 20th century is this magnificent amber honorary trophy from the estate of Ward Haylett, captain of the US team.
He won it as victor in the first international athletics match between Germany and the United States, held in Berlin in August 1938.
From 1928 to 1963, Haylett served as athletics coach at Kansas State University. He was also a member of the coaching staff of the US team at the 1948 Summer Games and was later inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.
