Description

The Enigma in good, virtually untouched condition. It has merely been gently cleaned and checked, and is now fully functional, both mechanically and electrically. The housing with the original black crackle lacquer and screw-mounted serial number "873". No battery nor traces of corrosion under the cover of the battery box. Includes the matching functional power supply unit from Stucki Bern with the connecting cables in the wooden box. The encryption rotors (I, II and III), plus the reversal rotor in Bakelite, with an aluminium hand wheel and the Latin letters from A to Z, each bearing the serial number "K 760". The base plate stamped with the serial number "369". The keys in the standard QWERT sequence, with intact glass plates and covering rings. The integrated lamps were especially rebuilt for the Enigma with flat glass bulbs. The wood of the carrying case (measuring 38 x 30 x 16 cm) shows traces of storage, the leather handle and its attachment a later replacement. On the inside of the lid is the green disc, the label, the form clip, the spare lamp panel with twelve replica bulbs and an associated (?) key. The Enigma K was rolled out for commercial use in 1927. From 1938 onwards, Heimsoeth & Rinke of Berlin manufactured the K models for the Swiss Army. They had an additional external lamp panel, known as the Fernlesegerät, and a separate transformer for the permanent power supply, which also required a larger wooden crate (possibly Swiss production?). From 1940 onwards, exports were stopped in order to produce machines for the Wehrmacht. The improved Enigma-KD was used by the SS Reich Security Main Office from the middle of the war.
