Iron, richly etched all over with Renaissance décor of cord friezes and floral tendrils, interspersed with figures such as hunting hounds, hares, a hunter and hybrid creatures. The sturdy rack with a ridged prong. Two drill holes on the inside for the triangular pointer plate, the original belt hook on the other end. Flat, round wheelhouse, the inscriptions "BLAS KREVSIG ANNO" and "BLAS KREVSIG 1589" on the top of the ridged, central axle, including a coat of arms with ropemaking tools and the monogram "BK". The manufacturer's mark "HW" above a star in an escutcheon near the rack. Straight, ridged crank arm (the handle has been lost). The original hemp windlass underneath. Length of the rack including the belt hook 39 cm. Said Blasius Kreusig is documented in contemporary crossbow literature as a Dresden ropemaker and successful marksman, listed in the "Beschreibunge des Armbrust Schiessens" on the occasion of the lavish nuptials of Balthasar John (Dresden 1583) on 23 April 1582 as "Blasi Kreusig ein Se(i)ler" from Dresden (literature reference is enclosed). Absolutely unsurpassed, first-class cranequin, probably made in Nuremberg, with lavish embellishment, date, even the owner's name and coat of arms.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
