Description
Oval, black and white photograph as a half-length portrait, wearing a dark, glossy silk dress, her hair in a net. Under glass, in an exceptionally ornate, decorative gilt frame (somewhat knocked in places, several ornaments are missing but could be replaced). The back with a wooden cover and a paper label reading "1267". Dimensions of the oval portrait 76 x 55 cm. Size of the frame 100 x 75 cm. Large-format photograph, probably taken by Joseph Albert (1825–1886), court photographer to the Bavarian royal family, who acquired a reputation for his subtle characterisation as the first Wittelsbach court photographer and whose work is thus on a par with Franz Xaver Winterhalter's paintings of nobility. Of the utmost rarity, formerly from the Wittelsbach estate.Provenance: Tegernsee Abbey
