Black and white, half-length portrait photograph in Bavarian uniform with broad, watered order sash and breast star of the Order of St. Hubert, his pensive gaze directed upwards. Under glass, in an exceptionally ornate, decorative gilt frame. The back with a wooden cover and old paper label reading "1258". Dimensions of the oval portrait 70 x 53 cm. Size of the frame 95 x 78 cm. Large-format photograph, probably taken by Joseph Albert (1825–1886), court photographer to the Bavarian royal family, who acquired a reputation for his portraits of Ludwig II as the first Wittelsbach court photographer and whose work is thus on a par with Franz Xaver Winterhalter's paintings. Of the utmost rarity, formerly from the Wittelsbach estate.Provenance: Tegernsee Abbey
