Description

Exquisitely carved ivory figure of a reclining Venus surprised by Cupid. The nude goddess propping herself up with one arm on a folded cushion, the other hand covering her pubic area after cheeky Cupid pulled away the cloth from her hips while running past her. Both wrists of the boy broken and restored, the rear part of the cloth with minor flaw. Hairline cracks due to age. On the bottom of the base monogram GC (or SC?). Length 16.5 cm. The CITES documents with trade permit are included.
