Lot 6970
A pair of shoulder boards for a Colonel of the 2nd Life Hussar Regiment “Queen Victoria of Prussia” No. 2
Orders and Military Collectibles until 1918 | A109m | Live auction | 1500 Lots
Description
Silver bullion with black flecking shoulder boards with black underlay, two gold pips and gold crowns and cypher “V”s for 2nd Hussar regiments. Uncleaned, exhibits age and wear with minor toning/soot. The only individuals who could plausibly have worn them are the regimental commanders serving from the time the regiment was renamed from “Kaiserin” to “Kaiserin Viktoria von Preußen” in 1901—namely Colonels Konrad von der Schulenburg (1897–1902), Friedrich Wilhelm von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth (1902–1908), or Adolf Krahmer (1908–1912). According to the consignor, these were actually the Empress's personal shoulder boards; however, unlike in the case of her daughter Viktoria Luise, no photographic evidence could be found to substantiate this claim.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
