Description
Challenge trophy in the form of a flag, made of red and orange silk with a golden yellow fabric fringe border, broad silver braid on both sides. One side inscribed "NAGRODA PRZECHODNIA 1-SZEJ WARSZAWSKIEJ DYWIZJI PIECHOTY IM. TADEUSZA KOSCIUSZKI" (Challenge trophy of the 1st Warsaw Polish Infantry Division Tadeusz Kościuszko) and the Order of the Cross of Grunwald in the centre. The other side with the Division badge. Eight metal fastening rings on the side, size of the flag without the fringe 48 x 64.5 cm. Also comes with the upper part of the flagpole (in wood) with the metal fittings and the brass flag finial. Overall length 126 cm. Traces of age and handling. The flag was made in the early post-war years and served as a challenge trophy. The Division was established in 1943 and fought alongside the Red Army against the German Wehrmacht in World War II. The Division was dissolved in 1955.
