Description

Slightly curved blade, richly etched on both sides showing floral patterns, the Mother of God, the badge of the 1st Brigade of Legionnaires for loyal service, and the Virtuti Militari Military Order. Also inscribed with his name, "Jerzy Ferek Błeszyński Pulk.Dypl.", dated on the other side "Tarnopol 1 na 2 Czerwca 1919" (Tarnopol June 1 and 2, 1919). A special blade with unique etching, designed by Antoni Dziedzicki in 1938 - the back of the blade bears the inscription "Pys.itraw.Kpt. Antoni Dziedzicki 1938". The artist Antoni Dziedzicki is known for his special blades and unique etchings. Black, leather-covered handle with triple wire wrapping (one row incomplete), the handle and brass hilt designed by Borowski Warszawa, the steel scabbard with remnants of nickel plating, total length 94.5 cm. It is very likely that Jerzy Ferek-Błeszyński already carried this sabre as an officer. With his appointment as brigadier general in March 1939, the blade was then replaced. A unique and extremely rare honorary sabre for a Polish brigadier general. Jerzy Seweryn Witold Ferek-Błeszyński (1888 - 1946) was an independence fighter, intelligence officer, politician, highly decorated legionnaire officer, diplomat, and brigadier general in the Polish Army. After the end of World War I, he joined the newly founded Polish Army. Until the outbreak of World War II, he served as acting head of the intelligence service and as military attaché in Paris from 1928 to 1936. When World War II broke out in 1939, Marshal Śmigły-Rydz appointed him commander of a Polish division in France and acting commander of the Coëtquidan trainings camp. As of November 1939 he was without a command. Due to his poor health he was retired in January 1942. In 1921, Ferek-Błeszyński was awarded the Silver Cross of Virtuti Militari (No. 61) – the highest Polish military decoration for heroism and courage in war.
