Description

Made of red and white silk with a fabric fringe border, at the centre on one side the Polish national eagle and the motto "HONOR I OJCZYZNA" (Honour and Country), the cipher "1 DP" in an oak wreath in each of the four corners. In the centre on the other side, the portrait of Tadeusz Kościuszko and the motto "ZA NASZA WOLNOSC I WASZA" (For our freedom and yours), the red "sections" featuring the cipher "1 DP". Dimensions of the flag approx. 112 x 110 cm without the fringe. The flag finial is a brass representation of the Polish national eagle, hollow on the inside, below which the inscription "1 Dywizja Piechoty im Tadeusza Kościuszki" (1st. Polish Infantry Division "Tadeusz Kościuszko"). Also comes with the upper part of the flagpole (in wood), the metal fitting nickel-plated. Length including flag finial 136 cm. Moreover, several streamers (Order of Virtuti Militari and Order of the Cross of Grunwald) still attached. Showing traces of age and use, the fabric somewhat faded. The 1st Polish Infantry Division "Tadeusz Kościuszko" was an armoured division in World War II. Established by the Soviet Union and under the command of the Red Army. Part of "Berling's Army", the division fought against the German Wehrmacht at the Eastern Front from 1943 to 1945. At the end of April 1945, the soldiers of the division fought alongside the Red Army in the Battle of Berlin. Under the control of the Soviet Union, this 1st Polish Infantry Division became the Polish People's Army in 1945. Exceptionally rare unit flag.
