Description

Based on the non-military model Wanderer W 11 a „Kübelwagen” version was developed for the Reichswehr as of 1930. Initially built with a 2,5 litre engine, this was later upgraded to the 3 litre engine of the larger model Wanderer W 14. A total of 6000 vehicles in various patterns was built. Our vehicle is equipped with the 4-stroke 3-litre in-line-6 with an output of 60 HP. The electric system runs on 12V, has mechanical front-axle steering, an unsynchronised manual 4-speed gear box, rigid axles on leaf springs and hydraulic breaks. Dimensions ca. 4,85 x 1,83 (mirrors not included) x 1,96 m, weight ca. 1,75 t. Top speed 85 km/h. The body was built in 1939 by August Zschau in Leipzig, featuring metal doors, canvas top, foldable windshield and side-mounted spare wheels. It was delivered to the SS-Leibstandarte, and, according to a waybill dated October 4, 1939, placed to the disposition of the staff of RF-SS. After the capture of the vehicle by the Soviets in 1945 it was apparently on open-air display at the Riga military museum, underwent restoration there and was sold in the 1990ies. Restoration included the body (no number visible), the wooden floor, the interior and the roof. The Wehrmacht-style tires were probably made in the GDR. The engine was sealed at the time and seems to work fine. Recently the carburator was cleaned, fitted with new nozzles and adjusted, the ignition coil replaced and the ignition set. New transmission oil, the transmission linkage adjusted. The modern headlights are a legal requirement, but a set of period lights is included. While the vehicle is in working condition, has a German registration and TUV-sticker, it should be picked up with a trailer. It can be viewed during the auction at our premises upon prior appointment.
