Description

From the reign of Louis-Philippe I, 1830 - 1848. High copper skull with beautifully preserved gilding (stamped „60", „AD Douel..." and helmet at the back), the emblem with Gallic rooster in relief and „29 Juillet 1830" plus a laurel and an oak wreath on the "masque de cimier". „GARDE MUNICIPALE DE PARIS" in relief at the root of the comb. Black horsehair plume, leopard skin turban, embossed chinscales (one end torn off and inserted loosely) on velvet-covered leather underlay (the velvet heavily rubbed and torn). Two embossed star rosettes on the side, a black horsehair brush (marmouset) at the front by the comb, the lateral blue and red feather plume replaced. Blackened liner with leather flaps (defects, the gold border for officers still recognisable). The front and rear visors lined in leather (cracked, adhesive residue). The comb and skull cracked, minor imperfections. Damaged in places, signs of wear and age. The Garde Municipale de Paris was founded after the bloody „Trois Glorieuses" mass riots of July 1830. Extremely unusual and exceptionally distinguished dragoon's helmet.
