Description

Silver, enamelled in colour on both sides (minor chipping), on the original ribbon with rosette (the seam of the ribbon coming apart in places). In the original green presentation case (scuffed), the imperial eagle embossed in gold on the lid. Hinge and clasp are intact, the interior blue ribbon torn, blue velvet underlay, the lid lined in white silk (stained) with „LEMAITRE, PARIS” printed in gold. Slightly damaged in places, signs of age and wear. Width 37 mm. Weight 29 g. Moreover, an empty envelope, addressed by hand to „Prof. Roberto Bunsen Heidelberg”. This decoration dated 1866 is mentioned on p. 242 in Georg Lockemann's 1949 biography of „Robert Wilhelm Bunsen. A copy of the relevant extract is enclosed with the lot.
