Faceted breast star in silver, enamelled on the front (some chipping). The medallion in 14 carat gold, the Sacred Heart at the top enamelled in translucent red. A double wire pin on the hinge at the back. Width 74 mm, weight 59 g. In an unmarked, red presentation box lined in black velvet and white silk. Slightly damaged in places, signs of age and wear. Moreover, a handwritten postcard addressed to „Frau Landgerichtsdirector Bunsen", a relative of Robert Bunsen, dated 25 July 1892 (contents not related to the award). This decoration dated 1872 is mentioned on p. 242 in Georg Lockemann's 1949 biography of „Robert Wilhelm Bunsen". A copy of the relevant extract is enclosed with the lot.Provenance: Consigned directly from the family estate.
