A Bronze Statuette of a Seated Faun, Roman, 1st – 2nd Century A.D.

Description

Bronze. The figure is nearly naked; a animal skin (nebris) is draped around the neck, falling down over the shoulders. The faun sits in a relaxed posture, with his legs crossed. The upper body is slightly turned, and the head is turned to the right. In his right hand he holds a small bowl of fruit. Green patina, darkening in places, with isolated corrosion and encrustations. Minor flaking and abrasion on exposed areas. The front part of the right foot has a missing section. Length 7.5 cm. Height 6 cm. CULTURAL ASSET!

Provenance: French Collection. Bought from Gorny & Mosch, Munich, 23th June 2010. Before private Munich collection since 1970s.
