A Greek greave in bronze, anatomically formed, 5th century B.C.

Description
The anatomically formed greave (knemis) made of hammered sheet bronze. The greave designed to enclose and protect the entire right lower leg. The edge of the greave is clearly marked by a soft break, tapering upwards towards the knee in a smooth curve. The left inner calf area emphasised by a hollow fuller in front of the camber. Shin and right outer side curving outwards slightly. A continuous border of perforations along the edge, approx. 2 cm apart, to attach the lining on the inside. Large areas with a smooth, glossy patina and olive-green tinge on the left side, partly covered by oxide deposits, which form a rough surface. The right side with a brownish patina, covered in numerous green oxide deposits and rougher overall. The upper edge with minimal notches, a small fracture to the right edge and a bend in the lower section of the left edge on the back. Height 37 cm.
