Description

The greave (knemis) made of hammered sheet bronze. The greave enclosed and protected the entire lower leg area from the ankle joint to above the knee. In addition to the purely anatomical design with the emphasis on pronounced calf muscles, it features striking relief decoration. The knemis with a soft break in the centre, shallow fullers running along the sides and lines extending into spirals. A bulge above the knee, below two S-shaped spirals. A continuous border of small perforations along the edge to attach the lining on the inside. Dark green patina, with light green oxide deposits in places. A crack at the lower edge and another crack running sideways, approx. 16 cm long, from the upper edge. Height 41 cm. CULTURAL ASSET.
