Description
Narrow, fullered thrusting blade of triangular section. The motto "L'honneur me fait servir" amidst decorative tendrils finely etched on one side of the upper third. A cartouche at the root bearing the signature of a sword cutler from Metz. Chiselled iron hilt with fine, partially three-dimensional trophy and floral decoration inlaid in gold and silver. Remnants of the original bluing on the background. Original grip with sturdy silver wire winding and Turk's heads. Oval pommel with offset riveted button. Scabbard fragment made of white-painted leather over a wooden core. Silver locket with engraved and chased floral ornaments. The lower end of the chape has been lost.
