A German knightly sword with disc pommel and inlaid blade inscription, mid-14th century

Description

The narrow, double-edged blade tapering toward the point. Delicate, silver-inlaid adornment in the fullers on both sides. Barely legible majuscule inscription between two straight-armed crosses on one side, the opposite side with tendrils between straight-armed crosses. Severe traces of corrosion in the lower quarter, the point has been lost. Straight iron quillons, sturdy, slightly tapered tang. Heavy disc pommel with bevelled edges and a small, pyramid-shaped button. Length 91 cm.
