A man's large, hollow-wrought gold ring. The ring shank even on the inside, the exterior curving outwards. The ring shank widening from 5.5 mm on the underside up to 16.5 mm on the top with the ring plate. An oval cameo of carnelian showing Minerva, the top slightly convex, inset into the ring plate. Minerva, wearing a chiton and himation, the Corinthian helmet tipped upwards, holds a spear in her right hand, a statuette of Victoria with a wreath and palm leaf in her left. A shield by her feet on her left, an altar to her right. The chiselling of the intaglio of superior quality. Minor signs of wear and pressure marks, otherwise intact. Maximum inside diameter 2.6 cm. Weight 12.95 g.Provenance: Private Lower Franconian collection (D.T.), acquired in the South German art trade in 2019. Previously in a private Rhenish collection (P.R.), inherited from the collection of the consignor's father, who purchased the intaglio in the Belgian art trade in the 1960s to 1980s.
