Round, slightly conical barrel with distinct central rib, smooth bore in calibre 14.5 mm. Engraved signature "Ioh. Wagner à Cronach" on the rib, finely engraved, copper- and gold-inlaid coat of arms surmounted by a princely coronet at the breech. Engraved tang numbered "1". Lock with finely engraved and chiselled decoration, depicting a horseman and lion between trophies. Slightly carved walnut full stock with richly embossed gilt brass mounts. Depiction of horsemen in battle on a finely chased background, butt cap with mascaron. Trigger guard slightly bent. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length 49.5 cm. Carl III Philipp of the Palatinate (1661 - 1742) was Elector Palatine, Duke of Jülich and Berg as well as Count of Palatinate Neuburg from 1716 to 1742. Johann Wagner began his apprenticeship in Vienna in 1687 and is documented as a gunsmith in Kronach until 1726. He is listed there as a "Stückleutnant" (artillery officer).Provenance: Georg Britsch, art dealer, including a certificate of authenticity and the original invoice from 1995 for 17,000 DM.
