Description

Bright, rifled bore with good groove and land profile, length 91.5 cm, on the top a fork sight of Hessian form. Inscribed on the right side of the receiver “System von C.J. Doersch”, on the left “v. Baumgarten”. Dark full stock with brass furniture, iron buttcap and patchbox cover. Iron ramrod. Stock slightly bumped. Length 136 cm. The present weapon resembles an infantry rifle which was used for trial purposes in the electorate Hessen-Kassel. It is, however, well worth noting that the weapon features a patchbox modelled after the Schaumburg-Lippe hunting rifle. Cf. also: Das Zündnadelgewehr, p. 247f. figure 6/14ff. and 6/15f.
