Description

Octagonal to round smoothbore barrel in cal. 18 mm. To the left of the breech two indistinct marks. Rectangular pan with pivot cover. Rectangular lock with dragon-shaped cock. Walnut fullstock richly decorated with engraved and blackened inlays of bone and mother-of-pearl, with intermittent silver wire-inlays. Iron butt cap and trigger guard. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length 139.5 cm.
Muskets decorated in a closely related manner can be found in the Dresden armoury and many international museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum in New York (Inv. 28.100.06) and the Saint Louis Art Museum (Inv. 302:1951). Most likely this group of muskets was made by Dresden gun smiths for the Saxonian court.

The auction includes 726 lots and starts on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 at 10 am (CET). Lot no. 5001 - 5727. The pre-sale viewing will take place from Oct. 18 - 21 and Oct. 28 - 31, 2020 from 2 to 6 pm (CET). However, the number of participants for both auction and viewing is limited due to Covid-19 restrictions and requires an appointment. Bring your favourite breathing mask!
