Description

Award document for the Close Combat Clasp in Silver, dated January 21, 1945, signed by Oberstleutnant Konrad Lyhme, with a transmittal letter dated February 5, 1945. Award document for the Close Combat Clasp in Bronze, dated November 5, 1944, signed by Major Konrad Lyhme. Award document for the Iron Cross 2nd Class (1939), dated August 22, 1943, signed by Generalleutnant Hans Gollnick. Award documents for the Infantry Assault Badge in Silver and the Wound Badge in Black and Silver. Close Combat Clasp in Silver, zinc, maker mark "R.S.". Infantry Assault Badge in Silver, zinc. Wound Badge in Silver, zinc. All three awards were painted over with gold paint by the veteran. Iron Cross 1st Class (1939), non-magnetic core, pin replaced with an "old" style one. Iron Cross 2nd Class (1939) on ribbon, iron core. Wound Badge in Black, maker mark "L/11". DRL Sports Badge in Bronze, zinc. Ribbon bar, 1957 pattern; the Close Combat Clasp was not re-gilded on this bar; Lt. Christl was also awarded the so-called "Tank Destruction Badge" (Panzerknacker). Photo album containing 59 photos, some with captions; one photo shows Christl as a sniper; he was promoted to Lieutenant towards the end of the war. Four photos are reprints (reproductions); some photos have been removed. Additionally, the Soldbuch (pay book) cover, the award envelope for the Iron Cross 2nd Class, and his list of close combat days (30 days up to November 23, 1944) have been pasted into the photo album. It is quite possible that Lt. Christl was awarded the Close Combat Clasp in Gold, though it appears no official presentation ceremony actually took place.
