Description
Light truck with a payload of up to 3 tons, powered by a 3.6-litre 6-cylinder in-line engine (Otto) with 68 HP, 5-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive. Year of manufacture 1939, chassis no. BR-6W 59784, frame no. 59784. The vehicle was delivered in 1939 with a standard chassis and later fitted with a removable, closed superstructure, the so-called LC-Koffer (vehicle no. 2665/37), here configured for signals equipment and three radio operators. The LC-Koffer is a standardised, closed vehicle body with doors and windows that could be mounted as a complete unit on 3-ton Luftwaffe vehicles, on appropriate flatbed trucks or flatbed trailers, or set down as a whole onto the ground, and served to house motorised equipment units such as signals stations for Funk and wire communications, workshops, laboratories or equipment stores. It was designed by its engineers as a light construction in order to keep the overall vehicle weight low. The outer skin therefore consists of wood chipboard and peat mulch. The structure of the LC-Koffer was developed in a modular form so as to allow economical transport, light and uniform supply, as well as simple repair, operation and maintenance. In the event of damage, the light panels could be replaced individually. The vehicle shows clear signs of hard use on the bodywork, which has merely been overpainted. Among other issues, the passenger door jams. The vehicle stood for a long time as an exhibit in a hall and was used only occasionally for demonstration drives. The engine could be started with an external battery and fuel supply, during which it was established that the engine block has a crack – the vehicle loses water, though this improves after the engine warms up. It may be possible to have the engine soldered. No test drive was carried out. Typical older restoration period with self-made parts, sand-coloured lacquering with brownish net camouflage. Insofar as the interior of the LC-Koffer was no longer preserved in its original condition by the end of the second World War, it was reconstructed with great enthusiasm according to the loading plan of the Luftnachrichtentruppe, part 2, booklet 323 (L.Dv.702/2), and construction drawings from the Bundesarchiv in Freiburg i.Br., so that the interior is partly original and partly replica. According to the consignor's information, the vehicle is equipped with the following accessories (not verified, some also from the post-war period): On its front operating table is the long-wave receiver a (known as the “Kindersarg”) together with a 100-watt transmitter; on the rear operating table a knapsack receiver b (Torn E b) together with a Feldfernsprecher 33. Further interior equipment includes, among other items: a mains connection unit, a star antenna, an artificial antenna, three hand cable drums, a wall bracket lamp, a Morse key, four torches, four current testers, a pair of headphones, two double-headset receivers, two signage frame holders, two triple sockets, a throat microphone, a hand microphone for radio equipment, an equipment manual NA 4, an empty lead accumulator (wooden crate), three gas mask containers, a folding chair, a fire extinguisher, a first-aid kit, a ground spike, a funnel, three field cable drums, three soldering lamps and two lanterns; additionally in the side doors: a mixing can, a fuel jerrycan, antenna accessories and tools; and externally: a hand-crank mast, an earth conductor pipe, a spare cable drum, construction rods, a pickaxe and a spade. A new German vehicle registration document (proof of ownership) as well as keys are included. Mileage is not known. Due to the long time period of storage, the vehicle shows corrosion; replacement of all fluids, a tank cleaning and a major Service are also recommended. Completeness and functionality not verified. The vehicle is sold as a restoration period object; it is not roadworthy and must be collected by trailer. Location is Landshut.Condition: II - III Questions about the lot?
