Description
Certified copy of his birth certificate from 1901 (issued in Torgau, 1935). Marriage certificate from the Munich Civil Registry Office, dated February 3, 1936. Signed “Design for an urn [...] for Sturmhauptführer Wilhelm Löw”: a pencil drawing on A4 paper featuring a black-and-red letterhead (“Kurt Schmid-Ehmen - Sculptor, Munich”); inscribed in ink by Schmid-Ehmen at the bottom edge with details such as “Ostfriedhof - Haus Urnenhalle Raum No. I Mitte 29” and “M 1-5,” along with the date and his autograph signature; various fee stamps from 1936 on the reverse. Nine sheets of blank letterhead (A4 size, post-1945). Also included is an A4 pencil sketch of a dinosaur skeleton. Among the more than 80 photographs of various formats (ranging from 6x6 cm to 24x18 cm, including contact prints) are very rare images: Schmid-Ehmen modeling portrait heads (including one of Gauleiter Adolf Wagner); the eagle created for the Paris World's Fair; numerous shots showing the fabrication of the colossal eagles and the swastika wreath for the Nuremberg Rally Grounds; the memorial for the fallen of November 9, 1923; and various sculptures, portrait heads, and other eagle figures. The collection includes some press photos and prints dating from the post-war period- though likely predating Schmid-Ehmen's death in 1968, with at least three items bearing Schmid-Ehmen's signature. An impressive collection; the studio photographs showing Schmid-Ehmen and workers assembling his monumental works, in particular, convey a unique sense of the works' enormous scale.Condition: I - II Questions about the lot?
