Description
Coarsely woven, multi-piece sewn cover made of sackcloth (small gaps, tears, repairs); the two side ventilation holes are edged with leather; six iron hooks sewn into the bottom. This camouflage cover was not part of the standard issue; the troops made it themselves, and it was worn in Flanders. On the front is the regiment number “77” for the 2nd hanoverian infantry regiment No. 77. This regiment was almost wiped out in Flanders on 4 October 1917. Fitted onto a rusty M 16 helmet shell that has been repainted green. Partially damaged, with clear signs of wear and age. Rare.Condition: II - III Questions about the lot?
