Description

Double sheet (28.5 x 22.5 cm), dictated letter expressing thanks for "the courteous communication sent to me on the 20th of this month," dated "Berlin, May 30, 1863." Signed in ink "v. Bismarck," with the annotation "Minister President von Bismarck" added below in another hand. Addressed at the bottom left to "Mayor Mr. Strosser – Herford." Folded twice; shows some browning and staining, with minor edge damage. Karl Albert Strosser (1819–1898) served as Mayor of Herford from 1855 to 1867, subsequently becoming a parliamentary deputy and director of the penitentiary in Münster.
