Orders and Military Collectibles until 1918 | A109m | Live auction | 1500 Lots
Description
Double sheet (25.9 x 22.2 cm). Letter written at dictation in ink, conveying words of appreciation on behalf of King Wilhelm I regarding "the address presented by members of the Herford district," which the King had graciously deigned to accept. Dated "Berlin, June 30, 1866," and bearing the autograph ink signature "v. Bismarck." Addressed at the bottom left: "To the Mayor, Mr. Strosser – Herford." Folded twice, slightly browned. The address from the Herford district to the King was evidently linked to the Austro-Prussian War; just a few days earlier, the Prussian army had invaded Saxony, Hanover, and Hesse-Kassel, and a few days after this letter from the then-Minister-President and Count von Bismarck, the decisive victory at the Battle of Königgrätz was achieved.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
