Description
Bronze socketed axe with an oval cross-section and a blade that widens only slightly, the cutting edge being slightly curved. A shallowly profiled ridge at the mouth. In front of this, a relief decoration with thin ribs on both visible sides: three parallel lines running all the way round, in front of which is a curved angle formed by three parallel lines. On the narrow sides, a flat, raised ridge; on one side, an additional attached eyelet. Dark green patina, with minimal corrosion marks in places, otherwise completely intact. Length 11.3 cm. An exceptionally well-preserved and particularly fine example of an Early Bronze Age socketed axe. CULTURAL ASSET!Provenance: Private collection in southern Germany. From the estate of the grandfather, who, from the 1960s to the 1970s, had assembled a specialised collection focusing on prehistoric and early historical weapons.
