Description

The originally present flat base of 17.5 cm wide no longer preserved. Above it, the cylindrical foot, only 2 cm high. This is followed by the belly, which initially swings outwards and widens conically upwards to a height of 25 cm. There, an angular break leads to the slightly domed shoulder, which tapers upwards towards the approximately cylindrical, likewise slightly domed neck. At the neck, a separately worked horizontal projecting rim ring, cast in one piece with the handles, soldered to the flanged mouth of the sheet-metal neck. The belly entirely covered with horizontal flutes of approximately 1.5 cm wide, the shoulder with flutes of the same width running perpendicular to these, the neck below with a step and above it six horizontal grooves dividing the lower and middle section into five narrow bands. The rim ring on the upper outer edge fitted with a beaded border, the beads each approximately 6 mm in diameter. The square-sectioned handles gently curved upwards and bent back towards the keyhole-shaped attachments, to which they are soldered. The casting imitates four pairs of twisted cords. The upper arch of the handles covered by two smooth, round-moulded mouldings, held at the outer end by two U-shaped “clamps”. At the other end, in front of the rim ring, a round-sectioned circle surmounted by a ball. Surface slightly dented in various places through use, otherwise intact. Total height 49.2 cm.
