Description
An exceptionally fine and finely worked head of a Venus statuette of classical elegance, standing apart from the frequently somewhat provincial and naive character of Roman small-scale sculpture. The eyes, including pupils and lids, the nose, lips and cheeks well-proportioned and lifelike in execution, as are the details of the hairstyle. The face set on the neck with a slight turn to the right. Very fine, slightly mottled, silky-matt green Patina. Preserved height 3.5 cm. CULTURAL ASSET!Provenance: Private collection in France. Acquired from Hermann Historica, Munich, 22 April 2009, Auction 57, Lot 97.
