Description

1–3) Three hilts from fan-grip swords with square-sectioned handles. The pommels running transversely to the no longer extant blade: slightly curved, hollow tubes with thick walls and ribs running transversely to the tube axis at the centre. At the lateral borders the obliquely set “fans”, smooth on the outside or with a groove accompanying the border, on the inside with a ridge at the border. Below, the pommel transitions into a square-sectioned handle, at the top with an approximately 1 cm wide thickening running all around. On the sides bearing the fans, the handle widens below a step and then merges “seamlessly” in one piece into the crossguard; the crossguard with oval cross-section and two lateral prongs. The other opposing sides run without a step; at the bottom their lateral face bends at a right angle and forms the upper termination of the crossguard. On the other two examples the crossguard is not preserved. The complete hilt with crossguard in excellent condition with a beautiful, dark green Patina. The two fragmentary pieces without crossguard with oxide deposits and incrustation. Length 10 cm, 14.5 cm and 20 cm. 4) A hilt with a grooved lower section, oval in cross-section, flaring at the bottom to the width of the blade. Above this, two ribs. The pommel, drawn downward on both sides, on a grooved range with two lateral mouldings terminating at the ends in spheres with two grooves before them. Between the mouldings a rib, the centres of the mouldings drawn angularly outward and likewise fitted with spheres and two grooves before them. The remains of a formerly present Iron blade largely milled out. Dark green Patina. Length 12.2 cm. CULTURAL ASSET!
