Description

Mahogany, partly veneered, with mother-of-pearl and metal inlay and probably nickel-plated brass mounts. Black leather writing surface with a silver-coloured tooled ornamental border. The rectangular upper section with a sloping writing surface is raised on four tapering legs. The arched aprons are decorated with beaded metal mouldings and stylised foliate and fleur-de-lis motifs. Based on Urban’s 1908 design for the standing desk accompanying the imperial jubilee publication An Ehren und an Siegen reich. The wooden surfaces have scratches, abrasions and isolated knocks. Individual mother-of-pearl inlays are missing; some of the resulting losses have been painted in a silver colour. The metal surfaces are rubbed, with the silver-coloured coating locally worn through to the yellow metal beneath. Modern star-drive screws to the underside of the upper section indicate later intervention. Renewal of the leather writing surface and individual fastenings cannot be excluded. Dimensions: approx. 100 x 84.2 x 55.5 cm. Attention: Self-collection in person only, or request a shipping quotation prior to bidding.
