Description
Dark brown patinated bronze. Depicting a figure lying prone on a cushioned bed, the head resting on the folded arms, after the antique type of the Sleeping Hermaphroditus. The composition follows the type represented by the Borghese Hermaphroditus in the Louvre, whose mattress and pillow were carved by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1620. Hollow-cast in several sections, with an open underside. The patina rubbed to the raised areas, with scratches and scuffing, isolated pale deposits and localised green corrosion products. Approx. 16 × 67 × 34 cm.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
