Description

Watercolour and brushwork in black on textured paper, watermarked “C. M. FABRIANO” at the left edge. Bears the inscription “Peiner” lower left. A recumbent gazelle with its head turned towards the viewer, set against a brown-toned ground. The sheet is slightly cockled, with small pinholes at the corners and rubbing to the lower right corner. The verso with remnants of an earlier adhesive mounting at the corners and along the lower edge. Sheet size 29 × 44 cm. Following journeys to East and Southern Africa, Werner Peiner repeatedly explored African landscapes and animal subjects.

The auction starts on Monday, November 16, 2026 at 10 am (CET) with Lot no. 001 - 863 and continues on Tuesday, November 17, 2026 at 10 am (CET) with Lot no. 864 - 1190. The pre-sale view will take place from November 9 - November 13, 2026 in our auction rooms at Bretonischer Ring 3 in 85630 Grasbrunn / Munich from 11 am to 5 pm (CET).
