Description

Narrow, double-edged thrusting blade of flattened diamond section with dark age patina. Deep fullers on both sides extending down almost to the point. A barely legible signature (Pichino?) struck in the fullers of the upper third. A half-moon mark and another mark stamped on each side of the shallow-fullered ricasso. Opulently wrought iron knuckle-bow hilt with extended, straight quillons (one arm slightly bent). The flat bars finely fullered on the edges and diagonally notched on the insides. Openwork baluster with spiral flutes and silver-inlaid embellishment. The obverse guard bars decorated with fine floral gilding, excessively rubbed on the lower bars. The grip spirally fluted with iron wire winding (minor defects) and Turk's heads. Spirally fluted, openwork pommel with lavish silver inlays, the offset, hexagonal riveted button with fine gilding. Length 124 cm.
