Cal. 11,15x60R M71, SN. 212, matching numbers. Frosted bore. Bands, bayonet stud and sights identical to the M71 infantry rifle. The receiver marked "PATENT SCHULHOF SUHL 1884" on the left side. Bolt with integrated extractor, ejector groove and anti-fouling grooves on the firing pin. A swivel-mounted control rod is activated by a little lever in the bolt handle area, and depending on position this rod is activating/deactivating the magazine. Tang safety. Cock-on-closing system. The rear end of the bold features a number of locking lugs. Combined tubular and stacking magazine in the butt stock with spring-loaded cover on the left side. A spring loaded plunger positions the cartridges for a follower, actuated by the control rod. When the control rod is engaged, cycling the action will move a case from the butt stock magazine through the grip of the stock towards the chamber area, where another actuator controlled by the central rod pushes the case into the chamber. An enormously complicated action with too many moving parts and beyond any meaningful field maintenance. In the chamber area several Prussian acceptance marks. The combination of serial number and acceptance marks indicates that this gun had trial status only. An attachment screw (replaceable) in the butt stock area and the cleaning rod are missing. Walnut stock with signs of wear, the metal surfaces with minor traces of corrosion (no pitting). Giving this gun a careful overhaul will greatly improve its condition. Length 134 cm. An extremely rare specimen of a rifle that never went into production!
