Early medieval gold belt fittings, steppe nomads of Eastern Europe, 8th - 9th century

Description
A total of 17 silver fittings in pressed sheet metal with hammered ornaments, the front fire-gilt. Namely: 1) Long tongue piece with leafy vines amidst grapes, convex at the bottom, the top edge straight. Length 9.3 cm (longest piece). 2 & 3) Two additional fittings with matching embellishment. One piece fragmented with the preserved, straight edge on one side, the other shaped like a coat of arms and short. 4) A further fitting with a straight edge and round lower end with volutes and laurel leaf ornaments. 5 & 6) Two circular fittings: the outer border with a frieze of waterfowl (probably ducks), the inner with a braided band that runs around two concentric circles and a central flat boss. Diameter approx. 4.5 cm. 7 & 11) Five identical pieces with two antithetical S tendrils, followed by bead and reel ornaments over a rectangle. Length approx. 3.3 cm. 12 & 17) Six fittings for the belt hanger strap with two rows of graduated arches, perforated at the top. Length of the completely preserved fittings approx. 4 cm. Most pieces with fractures or chips on the edges, sometimes included as small fragments. Individual fittings intact.
