Description
Fully sculptured in plaster. Écorché representation of a pointer in profile with its front leg raised and head upright. The surface shows the muscular structure in anatomically nuanced modelling without fur. On an integrated rectangular plinth. One of Zuegel's anatomical teaching aid models (see the equivalent cow and horse), sold from around 1903 through his own company. Extensive dirt and dust build-up on the surface as well as brownish deposits. Several clearly visible cracks, some with loss of material. Defects particularly on the head, right front leg and both hind legs, occasional porous areas. Dimensions of the sculpture approx. 33 × 46 × 11 cm, total dimensions approx. 39 × 62 × 19 cm. Son of the animal painter Heinrich Johann von Zuegel, trained at the Munich Academy, member of the Munich Secession, known for his animal sculptures in porcelain for Rosenthal, Meissen and Nymphenburg.
