Description

Made from wood, around 1939/1940, numbering plate no. "307", with mounting traces and weathered patina. Rare and authentic object from the “Wild and Bird Protection Park”, established by Martin Bormann on the Kehlstein within the Führer restricted area on the Obersalzberg. The box corresponds in construction and material to the approximately 2,500 numbered nest boxes systematically installed and monitored throughout the protected area. The nest box was recovered in 1992 for scholarly purposes and is published in Florian M. Beierl's "Geschichte des Kehlsteins" on page 178. The lot includes a multi-page written confirmation by the author of “History of the Eagle’s Nest”, as well as a copy of the book in which the very nest box offered here is illustrated on page 178.
