Description

Group of five large-format photographs depicting Maria “Mietzi” Reiter, Adolf Hitler’s early companion, taken in the 1950s by journalist Günter Peis. A photo shows her together with Paula Hitler, Hitler's sister. Another photo shows Maria Reiter standing on the rear wall of the recently demolished ruins of the Berghof on the Obersalzberg. Stamped “Stern Archive” on the back, size of each photo 19,5x29cm. Reiter remains one of the very few women from Hitler’s early private circle who spoke publicly after 1945 about her encounters with him. Authentic photographic material of Maria Reiter is extremely rare. The photographs were taken in connection with a planned book project by Günter Peis involving Maria Reiter and Paula Hitler, which ultimately failed due to serious legal disputes. Portions of the material were later published in a widely noted STERN feature. The lot is accompanied by a multi-page written provenance report prepared by a recognized historian, detailing origin, chain of custody, and historical context.
