Description

Typed single-page letter on company stationery “BLOHM & VOSS / HAMBURG” (red underlined), addressed to “Führer and Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler, Berlin (Reich Chancellery)", referring to the recently declared provisional acceptance of the battleship “Bismarck", with period closing formula and handwritten signature of an authorized shipyard representative, dated "Hamburg 24 August 1940", size 17.5x22.5 cm.

Provenance: Discovered in May 1945 in Adolf Hitler's destroyed Berghof on the Obersalzberg, found in the debris of his study after the Allied bombing raid of 25 April 1945; part of a small group of correspondence recovered by a local employee; thereafter in a private collection. The document is accompanied by an expert report from a recognized Obersalzberg specialist.
