Description

Negative, preserved in original Heinrich Hoffmann archive sleeve with typewritten caption "7406 Frühe Aufnahme 1925 (hand-corrected "1922“) eine der ersten Aufnahmen Hitlers.", size 9x12 cm. Another negative from Heinrich Hoffmann's studio, also in the original archive sleeve with typewritten caption "3028 Hitler, Portr. 1923 halbfigur halbseite in schwarzem Anzug", size 9x12 cm. Both negatives are also in their original semi-transparent protective paper. These negatives constitute the photographic source material of the earliest known portraits of Adolf Hitler (1922/23). Heinrich Hoffmann was the only photographer whom he trusted from early on. From this relationship emerged what later became a de facto monopoly over Hitler’s official imagery. Includes a multi-page provenance report documenting the complete ownership chain, contract copies, cheque copy, sworn affidavit, and archival documentation.
